Embedding a flexible, scalable, highly efficient modular wiring system within a major hospital development.

The Story

Cork University Hospital (CUH) is a model 4 tertiary referral centre and university teaching hospital. It is unique in accommodating 40 different medical and surgical specialties on a single campus.

CUH’s new radiation oncology centre is designed to meet the hospital’s requirements as the regional cancer centre and the only radiotherapy centre in Munster. This three-storey building is approximately 8,800 sq m in size and houses state-of-the-art equipment to provide a range of treatments for vulnerable patients who also need a comfortable, calm environment.

As a public building, owned and managed by the Health Service Executive (HSE), it was vital that the construction meet tight deadlines and a carefully considered budget.

The Solution

Entirely bespoke and unique to the building, our modular wiring solution provided a complete package that met the client’s needs exactly.

Using high-quality, prefabricated and pretested plug-and-socket systems from Wieland Electric, we built a structured system off-site, which was then quickly and efficiently installed on-site by simply plugging the male to the female connectors.

The Success

For a multi-purpose, heavy-use building such as this, modular wiring solutions represent a smarter, safer, more modern generation of wiring that helps deliver even greater savings on cost and installation time.

The design of the system allows great flexibility in configuration, now and in the future. Layout changes can be accommodated quickly and with minimum downtime. Structured wiring also saves on wastage because the components are reusable and arrive already assembled.

Sustainability was a key factor in this build also. With its future-proof layout and its zero wastage installation, our system was the ideal choice.

Our client also benefited from our streamlined logistics, proficient technical expertise and excellent customer service.
